Amazon Seller Newsletter - April 2012

SOA NEWSLETTER EN 201204.jpg

Dear Amazon Seller,

This newsletter will cover the following topics:

1) 2012 – A year of major sports events

2) Amazon Seller Support: the best way to contact Amazon

3) NEW! Consumer Electronics category now open for sellers on Amazon.es

4) Product variations

1) 2012 – A year of major sports events

The excitement is building ahead of all the major events that will be spread across the globe in 2012. Face-painted supporters from all over the world will cheer their teams on with vuvuzelas, whistles and team songs and share their heroes‘ highs and lows. These events will provide many opportunities for boosting your sales in different product categories, e.g. “Hobbies, Sports & Leisure” for footballs, trainers, horns and vuvuzelas, “Clothing”* for t-shirts, flags and accessories of the participating countries, “Electronics” for televisions and video projectors, “Home & Garden” for barbecues, books and computer games on the sporting events and “Grocery”* for picnic supplies etc.

* Prior approval is needed for the sale of products in the following categories: Clothing, Food & Drink, Health & Beauty and Perfumes, Jewellery and Watches. If you are not currently authorised to sell products in these categories, please contact Seller Support, who will provide you with a full list of requirements to obtain approval.

Reach more fans and other potential customers

If you want to reach fans in other countries, with the European Marketplaces Account you can sell your products on several marketplaces, such as Amazon.fr, Amazon.de, Amazon.it and Amazon.es. Find more information on the European Marketplaces Account here. As many products are already available on more than one marketplace, these products no longer need to be created in the national language. Another way of reaching new customers in new countries is to extend your export settings. You can define them precisely in Seller Central under Settings / Shipping Settings. If you use “Fulfilment by Amazon”, you can extend your export settings by clicking on Inventory / Fulfilment by Amazon Inventory / Change Export Settings.

Please note:

  • You must continue to upload inventory files separately for each country in the local currency.
  • You must ensure that you meet all tax obligations and regulations in each marketplace you want to sell on.
  • Sellers using SOAP must migrate to MWS to be able to use the multi-marketplace feeds.

Prepare for major sports events

If you have been an Amazon seller for over two years, you can view your personal sales statistics for the two years preceding a major event, in order to identify possible sales trends. On the Reports tab, choose Detail Page Sales and Traffic e.g. for the previous three months (1st March to 1st June), to see your best-selling items for the last big international football tournament.

2) Amazon Seller Support: the best ways to contact Amazon

What is Seller Support?

Amazon Seller Support answers the queries of private and commercial sellers concerning their sales activities. It is the first point of contact for (technical) problems concerning your Seller Account settings, the creation of your inventory files, questions about the special programmes‚ “Fulfilment by Amazon” and “Amazon Payments”, approval for restricted categories, shipping questions, payments and much more.

How can I contact Seller Support?

At the bottom of every page in your seller account, you will find the “Seller Support” link to contact us. Please choose the topic area (you can describe the subject here in detail) and the method of contact (e-mail or call-back service) you prefer. You can attach files if necessary or find out more about the topic area by clicking on the links under “FAQ“.

How can I get the best out of Seller Support?

To guarantee your request is dealt with as quickly and efficiently as possible, please provide as much information as you can in the main field of the contact form (see above). By phone, please also have your e-mail address and the last four numbers of your bank account ready for the security questions. Please provide the following information in the contact form:

  • Problem description: What exactly is the problem/query?
  • For inventory problems: What is the ASIN, SKU or EAN of the product?
  • For orders: Provide order numbers
  • Attach screenshots or (inventory) files if necessary
  • Duration: When did the problem start?
  • Steps already taken: Have you already done anything yourself to resolve the problem?

For straightforward queries (e.g. “when will I be paid?”), please feel free to take a look at our Help pages, where you may find the answer to your question. Simply click on the “Help” link within your Seller Account.

The Seller Support service aims to deal with your query and resolve your problems as quickly as possible.

3) NEW! Consumer Electronics category now open for sellers on Amazon.es

We're pleased to announce that sellers can now start selling in the Electronics product category on Amazon.es. We encourage you to expand your product offers into this new area of opportunity. The file template and browse tree guide are now available for download in Seller Central Help.

Sellers can list products in the Electronics category on Amazon.es using their existing European Marketplaces account. You will need to provide customer service in Spanish. If your product does not exist on Amazon.es at the moment, please feel free to create your own product detail page in Spanish, using your European Marketplaces account on Amazon.es.

For more information, see our international seller rules (Help topic).

4) Adding product information and create variations

Please refer to the category-specific guidelines when creating new product listings to ensure you are offering the highest quality of product information to your customers. A good, complete and correctly created product is generally more successful on Amazon than one with only the bare minimum of information. Find out what is especially important for your product categories in the different guideline documents that have been created by our category teams.

Choose accurate product titles

When creating new products, make sure you keep to the pre-defined structure guidelines. These make products easy to find when searching on Amazon and are based on what our customers are looking for. Consider how well your product will perform in search results. For example, does the title contain the brand name? Is there any risk of it being confused with other products? Will customers recognise the right edition, model and item number etc. at first glance? Please ensure that brand and model names are spelled correctly.

Give a very detailed description of your products

The product description is your “customer consultation“! Use the description to explain the item in more detail and to set it apart from similar products. Write in complete sentences and don’t limit yourself to using bullet points. Bullet point text can lower your rankings in search engine results, but can be useful for products with many attributes, such as digital cameras. To optimise your search results, include selected key search terms. Use html tags to highlight or underline text.

Use the variations setting correctly

For the product lines that support variations on Amazon.co.uk, please ensure that you correctly define the parent/child relationships between your relevant products when listing them. This is the only way that customers will be able to see, for example, all available sizes and colours for a particular piece of clothing.
